The water tower in Hyllie is Malmö's newest water tower.
The water tower in Hyllie is Malmö's newest water tower. The tower was the winning proposal in a major architectural competition. The proposal called "Drabant" was carried out by Kjessler & Mannerstråle from Stockholm. The Hyllie water tower is a popular Malmö symbol. The ground level is about 21 meters above sea level. At different times, the lighting changes. For Christmas, for example, the lighting is red. When the lighting is not specially adapted, it is blue.
There used to be a restaurant up in the water tower but it was moved in 1996. From 1998 to 2008 the room was used for display activities for educational purposes. From previously standing alone in agricultural landscapes, Hyllie water tower is now surrounded by new buildings such as Malmö Arena, the Emporia shopping center, and the City Tunnel with Hyllie station just outside the tunnel.
The water tower is now protected by several safety devices and has a high fence around it. A water park for the public is under the tower.
